So it turns out The Killers have been releasing Winter holiday music every year since 2006. Just stating what a lot of people seem to have already known and that I did not. I’m perfectly fine with this bit of news since, in general, artists have gotten a little lazy when it comes to Christmas songs. I mean, come on, Christina Aguilera and J-Beebz are not the only ones allowed pump out some Holiday spirit, people! But here are The Killers, churning out new music even while on hiatus and even donating the proceeds to charity. It’s pretty awesome, so they’re getting a post tonight.

By the way, I’m big on the holiday cheer. Do not be surprised if I post more ring ting tinglin’ tunes before the month is over.

Jimmy Eat World - For Me This Is Heaven
My playlist starts out really calm with a track from one of my favorite albums, Clarity. Lyrically, and musically, emotionally…This album is nearly perfect.
Into It. Over It. - Anchor
When I first heard this song, I thought Ben Gibbard had a secret band and didn’t tell anyone he was going under the name Into It. Over It. for fun. After listening to a handful of songs by Evan Weiss, he quickly became one of my favorite artists. Proper is probably my favorite album released this year.
Owen - Skin and Bones
Owen has been one of my favorite artists for quite some time. If you’ve ever dealt with heartbreak and you’re looking for comfort that someone else has been as much of an emotional wreck as you, the EP takes the cake as one of his best releases. Every song is great, and the album is neither too long nor too short.
Osker - Disconnect, Disconnect
When I was 11 years old, my older brother listened to anything that was on Epitaph Records, which meant the impressionable little brother did, too. Luckily he bought an album that is still something I listen to on a weekly basis…10 years later. If you’re into bands like Transit, Balance and Composure or Basement, you should really check out Osker’s Idle Will Kill.
Transit - Our New Year
Speaking of Transit, this song is taken from Keep This To Yourself, and it’s one of my favorite songs by them. This song paints a perfect picture of what was going on when it was written, and it’s probably more relatable than anything I’ve ever heard.
Lifetime - Airport Monday Morning
Lifetime’s self titled full length was released in 2007, and was overlooked by many. When I heard the album, I was astonished at how the album flowed from start to finish. If you’ve ever dealt with a long distance relationship, you’ll get sense of familiarity in this song.
The Dangerous Summer - Of Confidence
While this band has put out their second full length and been a pretty prominent band in the scene for the last few years, I think this was one of the first songs I heard from the band back in early 2007. The bridge in this song is awesome, and I think this was one of the first songs with “gang vocals” that I really loved.
Touche Amore - ~
This was one of the first songs released before Parting The Sea Between Brightness and Me was released. I hadn’t really listened to this band before hearing this song, but I can honestly say that I get chills every time I hear the last line of the song.
Paint it Black - Memorial Day
A good friend told me about Paint it Black when I was in high school, but I hadn’t gotten into hardcore as much. He played this song in the car for me once, and I really loved the singalong at the end. Years later, Paradise is one of my go to records.
Refused - Worms Of The Senses / Faculties Of The Skull
I had heard of, but not listened to Refused, until about 2 years ago. After hearing The Shape Of Punk To Come one time, I understand why it’s looked at as one of the most influential records in this generation of punk and hardcore. This is one of the first things I show the younger generation of kids that are into punk and hardcore.

Misfits - Angelfuck
We’ve been playing this song most nights on tour in keeping with the American Halloween spirit. One of the band’s classics, although the lyrics still remain a mystery to me. - James Mattock
Burned Out Motors - Bastards *Song is currently not on Spotify
These have been popping up recently in the currently thriving OI! circuit. Appearing to be only playing when band members aren’t in and out of jail. They’ve got the front down to a T, plus this tune is authentic as the skin of their 18-holer boots. - James Mattock
Title Fight - Where Am I?
This is one of the best songs of the year. I’m so glad to be touring with these guys right now, they’re really inspiring to watch every night and just the best dudes. - James Mattock
The Lemonheads - Break Me
Brian, whom just did our record introduced me to this band properly after declaring a similarity between them and Sharks. These were listened to a lot in the studio, so whether or not there was any direct influence this time we’ll have to see. - James Mattock
Hostage Calm - The ‘M’ Word
This appears on a compilation that Run For Cover records put out which is definitely worth the mention. It’s a collection of brand new tracks from their bands and the whole listen is great. Hostage Calm are so excited and refreshing, seeming to top my expectations with each release. - James Mattock
The Rolling Stones - Plundered My Soul
This track wasn’t included on the original release of Exile on Main St, and only ended up being released as a bonus track with the recent reissue. It’s my favourite track from the Exile sessions. It’s a sublime mixture of rock ‘n’ roll, blues and soul music. It’s a wonderful jam. - Andy Bayliss
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come
Sam Cooke’s performance in this song captivates me every time. The raw emotion is palpable, and seldom do you find a singer who is willing to leave himself so vulnerable in his sincerity. - Andy Bayliss
Cream - Crossroads
Eric Clapton’s laid down his best work with Cream. Their brilliant interpretation of Robert Johnson’s haunting performance is one of the best blues covers from the 60’s. - Andy Bayliss
Tom Waits - Blue Skies *Song is currently not on Spotify
I recently picked up a Tom Wait’s collection of old demos and unreleased tracks. This is one of the very early tracks he never released. It’s a beautiful little ditty about love and loss, with only himself and an acoustic guitar to lay bare. - Andy Bayliss
Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come
I love the groove in this song. The musicianship from the band perfectly compliments Jimmy’s soulful vocal delivery and powerful lyrics. There’s such a tremendous feel throughout the track, it’s delicious to hear such a serious message conveyed through such a positive sound. It remains to be one of my favourite reggae tracks. - Andy Bayliss

Third Eye Blind - Blinded (When I See You)
I’ve always loved 3EB but didn’t even know the album Out Of The Vein existed until about a year ago! They have this way of writing really intricate songs but still make them incredibly catchy. All awesome grooves, weird lyrics and amazing musicianship. Incredibly underrated and overlooked influence when it comes to our scene of music, but I’m all about embracing this as one of the best opening tracks there is. - Jonathan Diener
Lifetime - Northbound Breakdown *Song is currently not on Spotify
No real special reason for this song other than it’s just absolutely amazing. I was so excited to hear that Lifetime was putting out their self titled record after not having an album out or being active in so long. This is the first track off the record and it definitely set the pace for how amazing the rest of the record is. So go listen to the entire record. okay? okay! - Anto Boros
